Memphis Man Arrested After Lengthy Pursuit

A Memphis man was taken into custody after leading law enforcement officers on a lengthy chase Saturday, June 9.

D. J. Frederick, 19, of Memphis was being sought on a felony warrant. Officers received a phone tip that Frederick was in Memphis attending a party. Officers responded to the site and located Frederick at 10:15 p.m. He reportedly fled from the scene on foot and officers instigated a foot pursuit.

Frederick took off north and eventually made his way into the field across from M & O Concrete plant. A pursuit ensued across the field before the suspect was able to elude the officer in the timber.

The sheriff's dispatcher received a call from an adjoining landowner, who reported sighting the individual exiting the north edge of the field near Dodge Street.

Additional officers were called to the scene and the search continued. The Memphis Police Department and officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol joined in the search.

Frederick was again sited by a landowner at 11:55 p.m. on Watkins Street near the Madison Street intersection.

Officers converged on the area but Frederick again was able to slip past the search party, which now included a canine unit from the Knox County Sheriff's Department.

Frederick was finally arrested at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Adams Street. He faces numerous charges stemming from the pursuit including possible drug charges as officers confiscated what they believed was marijuana at the scene.

He was being sought on charges of felony sexual assault, felony abuse of a child and felony promoting sexual performance by a minor.

Frederick is being held in the Scotland County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.

The Scotland County Sheriff's Department was assisted in the pursuit by the Memphis Police Department, the Clark and Knox County Sheriff's Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
