SCMH Names New Director, Assistant Director Of Nursing

Marcia Dial, administrator, announced that Linda Conner, RN, BSN, has accepted the position as Director of Nurses, at Scotland County Memorial Hospital, and Connie Roberts, RN, the position of Assistant Director of Nurses.

Linda Conner graduated from Queen City High School and furthered her education in Kirksville, completing the Licensed Practical Nurse program in 1971. She continued to accumulate credit hours at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College. In 1979 she received her Associate Degree of Nursing from Indian Hills Community College and in 1993 completed the Associate of Arts degree in Ottumwa, IA.

In 1994 Conner received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Teikyo Marycrest University in Davenport, IA.

Conner is certified to teach the CNA, CMT, and insulin administration for long term care facilities. She also enjoys teaching the LPN IV therapy course. Conner has her vocational teaching certification for RN nurses training with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in the state of Missouri.

Clinically Conner's past experience includes assisting anesthesiologist and in the recovery room at the Kirksville Osteopathic Hospital, Director of Nursing (DON) at Macon Health Care Facility, a 120 bed skilled facility, and D.O.N. at Twin Pines Care Center, a skilled 185 bed facility in Kirksville from 1987 to 1992.

In 1992 Conner accepted a position as Registered Nurse at the University Hospital in Columbia, and has continued there to the present working in: Pediatrics, Adolescent, Neonate Intensive Care Unit, Neuro Intensive Care Unit and Short Stay. Additionally she main-tained an ongoing instructorship at the Moberly Area Community College, as 1st year lead instructor of the Associate Degree Nursing Program, in fundamentals of nursing and Med-Surg, #1 theory as well as the Clinical Instructor for both these courses from 1994 to present date.

Conner is active in the Moberly Area Community College teachers' association and the Missouri Community College Association. She serves as Democratic Committee Woman in Schuyler County and is a member of El Kadir Jewels, and has served on the Schuyler County R-1 School Board and the Schuyler County Ambulance Board.

Conner received the Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching in the state of Missouri in 1999 while teaching at the Moberly Area Community College.

Linda and her husband, Jerry, live in Greentop and have two children, Kimberly and Amy. Linda enjoys traveling not only in the U.S. but outside the U.S.

Conner stated, "I enjoy learning different cultures and customs and especially the different means of health care delivery systems".

Connie Roberts, RN, graduated from Schuyler County R-1 Schools, in Lancaster and continued with her formal education at Truman State University, in Kirksville, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.

Roberts clinical experiences have included charge nurse (22 bed Med / Surg. Wing) at Grim Smith Hospital, Gardner, Marino, and Barnes Healthcare Clinic, and at Northeast Regional Health System in Cardiac Rehab, ICU Manager, and Med / Surg. / ICU area, in Kirksville.

Additionally, Roberts was a community Health Nurse II, at the Schuyler County Health Department in Lancaster, and also at Northeast Missouri Caring Communities, as School Nurse for Schuyler County R-1 Schools.

Roberts received admission into National Honor Society, during high school, and served as camp nurse to the Grand Oaks Baptist Assembly children's camp.

Connie and her husband, Mikel, live in Lancaster and their three children are: Jacob, age 18, Katy, age 16, and Jackie, age 12. Connie enjoys attending their children's activities, working with her husband on their farm, and is currently enrolled in a distance program to receive certification as a Legal Nurse Consultant.
