Dedication Set For Jim Sears Technical Center

State Representative Sam Berkowitz, D-Memphis reported plans are being finalized for the dedication of the Jim Sears Northeast Technical Center. The Edina satellite facility for Moberly Area Community College will officially be named for the late first district representative at a ceremony and dinner on Saturday, October 20 at the technical center on Highway 6 across from the Knox County High School.

"This school was Jim's dream," said Rep. Berkowitz. "How proud he would be to know that people from all over northeast Missouri now have the chance of advancing their education right here in their own back yard."

Rep. Berkowitz said the day will begin with the dedication ceremonies at 11:30 a.m., followed by a Masonic cornerstone laying ceremony at 12:15 p.m. and a dinner sponsored by MACC and Truman State University following. Details on the dinner will be made available at a later date.

Many of Sears' former colleagues in the House of Representatives are expected to be on hand for the day. Berkowitz said he expects several of them to stay for the dinner and be available to speak with citizens following the event.

"Attendance at the center has outstripped all projections and just points out the vision that Jim had for higher education in this community," said Rep. Berkowitz. "Jim Sears made so many friends and opened so many doors before he was taken from us. The facility is a fitting tribute to this man, and I would invite all of my constituents to gather with me on October 20 to honor his memory."
