Salvation Army Christmas Campaign In Full Swing

The Memphis Unit of the Salvation Army is in full swing with their bell ringing Campaign this year. The goal of the local unit is to raise $1200.00 with 85% of that remaining in our county to be used for the residents of Scotland County. This is a reasonable goal for the unit to set since previous two years have slightly exceeded this total.

Something new for the Memphis Unit is the involvement with the Ministerial Alliance. These representatives of area churches are helping to get bell ringers scheduled but more important it is a joint effort to not duplicate how funds are spent, so there is more money available to those in need in our county.

Salvation Army funds are to be used in ways to help with such items as medications, travel expenses, food, disaster, clothing and a percentage of utility bills up to a specific dollar amount. These are only a few ways in which the money is spent throughout the year. The Salvation Army fiscal year runs from October 1 to September 30 and any funds that are not used go back to the Midland Division of the Salvation Army in St. Louis. It has always been our effort to make sure we keep that money in our community. In years past the Salvation Army has supported the Back to School Fair, purchased diapers for the well baby clinic, and given out vouchers for food at Thanksgiving.

Donations can be dropped in the kettles at the following locations: J's Foods, Dollar General, Pamida or mailed to Memphis Unit of the Salvation Army, Attn.: Debbie Blessing at 2 Child Support Lane, Memphis, MO 63555. If anyone is interested in helping ring the bell you can contact Debbie Blessing at 660-465-8549 or your local minister.
