Five Candidates File For April 2nd Municipal Election

Filing for city political offices opened December 18 and five individuals have placed their name on the April 2 ballot to serve the City of Memphis.

Incumbents Mike Stone, Alderman for the East Ward, filed for re-election as did long-time Mayor Ron Alexander.

Teresa Skinner will seek election as West Ward Alderman. Incumbent Cindy Garrett has not filed for re-election at press time.

The lone race with opposition thus far is for the office of City Marshal, where incumbent Terry Simerl will be faced by former Memphis Police Department officer Steve Snodgrass.

The filing period for the municipal election will remain open until 4:00 p.m. on January 15th. Voters will elect one alderman in both the East and West Ward for a term of two year years. The mayor position is also for a two-year term while the city marshal will serve for four years.
