LELA LAY (12/25/1913 - 7/3/2001)

Lela Lay, 87, of Edina, MO, died July 3, 2001, at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.

Born December 25, 1913 in Bible Grove, MO, she was a daughter of Virgil and Mary E. Tremain Blaine.

On December 25, 1931 at Memphis, MO she was united in marriage to Frank B. Lay, who preceded her in death on June 14, 1994.

Surviving are two sons, Donald Lay and wife, Dorothy of St. Peters, MO and Richard Lay of Peoria, AZ; two daughters, Carol Arehart of Edina, MO and Betty Lowe and husband, James, also of Edina, MO; a daughter-in-law, Audrey Lay of Ypsilanti, MI; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, Carl Lay and Kenneth Robert Lay; a grandson; a son-in-law, Gordon Arehart II; a sister, Lula Billington; a brother, Louie Blaine; two half-sisters, Alta Glenn and Alice Tooke and two half brothers, Alfred Stice and Albert Stice.

Mrs. Lay was a 1931 graduate of the Bible Grove High School. Lela was employed by the P.N. Hirsch Company in Edina, MO for 10 years. Mr. and Mrs. Lay were engaged in farming northeast of Edina, MO until 1964 when they moved into Edina. Lela enjoyed flowers. She was also a bowler and enjoyed being with family and friends.

Funeral services were held July 7, 2001, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Edina, MO. Burial was in the Linville Cemetery at Edina, MO. Casket bearers were grandsons, Carl Lowe, Ron Lowe, Derek Lay, Jon Lay, Frank Lay and John Lay. An expression of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Lay may be made to the American Heart Association.
