DuWAYNE BONDURANT (12/05/1925 - 8/10/2001)

DuWayne Bondurant, 75, of Memphis, MO, died August 10, 2001, in the ER at Scotland County Memorial Hospital, Memphis, MO.

He was born December 5, 1925, in Scotland County, MO to John David and Elma Comstock Bondurant and given the name, Donald DuWayne.

He received his primary education at the Jayne Country School and attended Memphis High School.

He enlisted in the Air Force on April 7, 1944 at Jefferson Barracks, MO, serving with the 19th SQD 22nd Bomb GRP. 5th AF. He received four bronze stars and was discharged May 5, 1946.

He married Betty Rae Swank on October 16, 1946 in the Methodist Church in Memphis, MO. To this union one son, Brent was born.

DuWayne worked for the Pepsi-Cola Memphis Bottling Company in Memphis from 1952 retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Wallace W. Gillispie Post #4958 VFW. Many people also knew DuWayne as Bomber from his bowling with the Pepsi Group.

Betty and DuWayne celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996. DuWayne enjoyed gardening and his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Memphis, MO; his son, Brent and wife, Dana of Memphis, MO; one sister, Nelda Stigall of Champaign, IL; three grandchildren, DeLayna, Brock and Madie Bondurant of Memphis, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Melba Lawson.

Funeral services were held August 14, 2001, in the Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, MO with the Rev. Carol Blackwell, pastor of the Memphis United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in the Memphis Cemetery with full military honors given by the Wallace W. Gillespie Post #4958 VFW of Memphis, MO. Memorials may be given to the Memphis United Methodist Church. Casketbearers were Steve Downing, Eyad Al-Jundi, Mike Johnson, David Peterson, Faron Mullinix and Randy Watkins. Honorary casketbearers were Bob Shanes, Joe Walker, John Johnson and Frank Reed. Ann Luther provided the music. Memphis Funeral Home of Memphis, MO was in charge of arrangements.
