Edna Lorraine York, 80, died September 11, 2001 at the Mercy Hospital in Centerville, IA.

The daughter of Raymond R. and Christina (Owens) Shirley, she was born in Geneseo, IA on December 5, 1920.

On December 26, 1943, she was united in marriage to Harold Francis York. He preceded her in death.

Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by one brother, James Shirley.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Edna was a lifetime resident of Schuyler County, MO. She lived in the Downing, MO vicinity for many years, where she taught in Scotland and Schuyler County Schools. She lived in the Bethel community, south of Glenwood, MO prior to moving into Lancaster, MO. She retired from teaching after 35 years. She was a member of teacher organizations, a charter member of Schuyler County Historical Society and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Kirksville Chapter #184.

Memorial services were held September 15, 2001, at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, MO. Benjamin Wheeler, former pastor of the Christian Congregation at Bethel, officiated. Pallbearers were her nieces and nephews. Music was provided by organist, Donna Welte and singers were Zelpha Pruner and Donna Welte. Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Schuyler County Historical Society. Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster, MO was in charge of arrangements.
