Grace Evelyn Bennett, 89, of Downing, MO, died September 25, 2001 at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, MO.

The daughter of William and Anna Mae (West) Neil, she was born on May 18, 1912 on a farm near Downing, MO.

On September 20, 1933, she was united in marriage to Floyd Bennett. To this union a daughter, Shirley, was born.

Survivors include her husband; their daughter, Mrs. Paul (Shirley) Hope of Ottumwa, IA; two granddaughters, Mrs. Mark (Paula) Vaske of Colorado Springs, CO, and Mrs. Chris (Patricia) Neal of Des Moines, IA and three great-grandsons.

Mrs. Bennett, a life-long resident of the Downing area, was a homemaker. She loved to do crafts and crocheting. She was a member of the Baptist Church of Downing, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harvey and Bernie Neil and two sisters, Lela Fogle and Edith Burton.

Funeral services were held September 29, 2001 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, MO. Reverend Sam Martin, pastor of the Downing Baptist Church officiated. Pallbearers were Joe Farley, Tom Farley, Tim Farley, Charles Comstock, Ellis Speer and Vaughn Fogle. Honorary pallbearers were Mark Vaske and Chris Neal. Interment was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, northeast of Lancaster, MO. A memorial has been established for the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Arrangements handled by Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster, MO.
