Maxine Petronell Montgomery, 82, of Centerville, IA died October 21, 2001, at the Kavanagh House in West Des Moines, IA.

She was born the daughter of Jacy and Maude (Heathman) Small on October 19, 1919 in St. Joseph, MO.

She was united in marriage on May 20, 1940 at Memphis, MO to James H. Montgomery who preceded her in death in 1977.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed working at the fabric shop in Fairfield, IA. She lived in Memphis, MO, Kirksville, MO and Fairfield, IA before moving to Centerville, IA. She was a member of the Memphis Christian Church in Memphis, MO and the 18-80 Club in Centerville, IA.

Maxine was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Madlyn Patterson and Kathryn Beck.

Surviving family members are: son, Jim Montgomery and his wife, Kayla of Mystic, IA; daughter, Janice Kay Shahan and her husband, Allen of Winterset, IA; two sisters, Mildred Rusk of Gibbs, MO and Frances Hunter of Louisiana, MO; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held October 24, 2001, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, IA, with the Rev. Carl Heien officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville, IA. Memorial contributions may be given to the Kavanagh House. Schmidt Family Funeral Homes, Centerville, IA was in charge of arrangements.
