William D. Newcomb, 67, formerly of Montour, IA died October 16, 2001, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, IA.

Funeral services were held October 19, 2001 from the Estel Perrin Avey Funeral Home. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery in Laurel.

He was born in Adair County, MO on June 8, 1934, the son of Morse and Ruth Bowman Newcomb.

William was reared and educated in the area of his birth. After serving with the US Army he moved to the Marshalltown, IA area and worked for 32 years with Southard Implement Co., retiring in 1999.

On January 5, 1957 in Nashua, IA he was united in marriage to Mardell Bartlett, and she survives.

There is one daughter, Teresa Newcomb of West Des Moines, IA surviving. Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters, Don Newcomb of Lancaster, MO, Charles (Shirley) Newcomb of Greentop, MO, Maurine (Mrs. Dean Bradley) of Baring, MO, and Maxine (Mrs. Emmett Phillips) of Memphis, MO; aunt, Clara Ditmore of Colorado Springs, CO; two sisters-in-law, Betty Newcomb of Osceola, MO and Carol Newcomb of Kirksville, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Robert, Junior and Harold.
