James William Patterson, 82, of Memphis, MO passed away October 16, 2001 in the Scotland County Care Center, Memphis, MO.
He was born September 9, 1919 southwest of Bible Grove, MO, the son of William and Mary Burrus Patterson.
James attended school in Bible Grove and served in the U.S. Army during World War II from April 1942 until November 1945, spending two years and five months in the Aleutians Islands. He loved hunting and fishing. He farmed and worked as a carpenter, painter and roofer.
James was preceded in death by his six brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are his sister, Ida Mae Davis of Lewistown, MO; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Patterson of Lewistown, MO; a close companion, Louise Clow and her family of Memphis, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
The family has suggested memorials to the Bible Grove Christian Church.
Funeral services were held October 18, 2001 at the Bible Grove Christian Church in Bible Grove, MO, with Rev. Charles Hammack officiating. Music was provided by Lonnie Erwin. Body bearers were nephews. Honorary bearers were Elton Emel, Charles Creek, Richard Kigar, John Frederick, and Dean Frederick. Military graveside services were provided by the Wallace W. Gillespie V.F.W. Post #4958, Memphis, MO. Interment was in the Bible Grove Christian Church Cemetery, Bible Grove, MO. Arrangements were by Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO.
