WILLARD OLEN BAXTER
(4/30/1916 - 11/8/2001)



Willard Olen Baxter was born in Schuyler County, MO on April 30, 1916 and passed away on November 8, 2001 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO. He was the son of Emery and Eunice Nicholson Baxter.

On September 15, 1939, he was united in marriage to Mary Louise Jackson. To this union, two children were born, James and Donna.

He is survived by his wife; son, James of Downing, MO; daughter, Donna and husband, Lecen Byrn of Greentop, MO; grandchildren, Doug Byrn and wife, Stacey, Tommy Baxter and special friend, Cindy Humphreys, Brian Byrn and Paula and husband, Verl Gordy, all of the area; great-grandchildren, Bran-don and Jordan Baxter, Logan, Mackenzie and Kylie Byrn and Hayden Gordy; a sister-in-law, Wilma Lee Baxter of Greentop, MO; nephew, Jaye Dee Baxter and wife, Kathy of Greentop, MO; niece, Janice and husband, Don McDonald of Liberty, MO, as well as other nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

In August of 1933, he was baptized into the fellowship of the Coffey Christian Church where he served as an ordained deacon until the closing of the church in 1998. Since then, he attended the Downing Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lloyd and Russell; and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Baxter.

They had lived on their present farm since 1943, where he was engaged in farming until failing health. He had also served on Tri-County Electric board for 30 years. He was always there to help wherever needed, helping with 4-H and other farm organizations. He will be missed by his family and many friends.

Funeral services were held November 11, 2001 at the Downing Christian Church with Pastor Larry Smith officiating. Betty Anderson and Alisa Kigar provided music. Pallbearers were Jaye Baxter, Gail Farley, Rodney Newland, J.L. Newland, Edwin Jackson and Vaughn Ruth. A memorial has been established for the Coffey Cemetery. Norman Funeral Home of Downing, MO was in charge of arrangements.
