DARRELL GENE PHILLIPS
(12/19/1932 - 11/28/2001)



Darrell Gene Phillips, 68, of Downing, MO passed away November 28, 2001 at his home.

The son of Chester Raymond and Orpha Anne (Gooden) Phillips, he was born on December 19, 1932, in rural Scotland County, MO, near the Kilwinning neighborhood.

Survivors include three sons, Darrell Phillips, Jr. and wife, Cindy of Voluntown, CT, Thomas Raymond Phillips and wife, Lisa of Danielson, CT, and Michael Harry Phillips and wife, Terri of Cameron, MO; two daughters, Kathy Klingsmith of West Plains, MO and Tammy Yearns and husband, Kelly of Downing, MO; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Whittom of Cedar Rapids, IA; a special friend, Bertha Phillips; a sister-in-law, Bettie Phillips and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Junior Phillips; and one sister, Hazel Hobby.

Darrell was a veteran of the Korean War in which he served with the United States Navy and was a member of the Schuyler County VFW.

Darrell had worked as a custodian for the Schuyler R-I School System and the Schuyler County Courthouse until retirement.

Funeral services were held December 1, 2001, at the Norman Funeral Home in Downing, MO, with Sam Martin, pastor of the Downing Baptist Church officiating. Music was provided by Willa Gooden, organist. Special taped selections were played. Pallbearers were Tom Phillips, Mike Phillips, Damon Spray, Paul Huffman, Ben Brosius and Jeremy Phillips. Memorials have been established for the Downing Baptist Church or the Downing City Cemetery. Burial was in the Downing City Cemetery in Downing, MO. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home, Downing, MO.
