Tigers JV Football Team Suffers First Loss Of Season

The Scotland County junior varsity football team suffered its first loss of the season September 17 when Milan came to Memphis and defeated the Tigers 18-14.

The kicking game proved to be the difference in the contest. Milan made a field goal, scored on a fake extra-point kick and took advantage of a poor snap on an SCR-I punt attempt to help lead to the win.

Scotland County got on the board first as Kiel Fogle capped off the Tigers drive with a one-yard touchdown run to give SCR-I a 6-0 advantage.

Milan came back in the second period in large part due to the Tigers turnover on a punt attempt. Milan had to go just 10 yards after recovering the fumble. The Wildcats faked the PAT kick and ran the ball in for the two-point conversion to pull ahead 8-6.

Milan added a touchdown later in the second quarter on an 18-yard touchdown and then breezed into the locker room with even more momentum after kicking a 25-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.

The Tigers made things interesting in the third period when Danny Roach connected with Clint Cottrell on a 37-yard pass play for the touchdown. Roach then carried the ball in for the two-point conversion to pull the Tigers within 18-14.

But neither team could strike again as the defenses maintained a scoreless fourth quarter to help Milan preserve the victory.
