Rams Score In Final Seconds To Beat SCR-I JV

After falling behind 20-0 early in the second quarter, the Scotland County junior varsity football team rallied to take the lead before seeing the game slip away in the final seconds. Schuyler County scored with six seconds left to escape with a 36-32 victory.

"Our Scotland County boys showed a lot of Tiger pride and a lot of courage in the comeback attempt," said coach Ken Cross.

The Rams scored three touchdowns in the first three minutes of the game. Schuyler County scored on the opening drive and then recovered a fumble on the Tigers very first offensive play to set up the second score. The Rams then intercepted an SCR-I pass to put the third touchdown on the board and take a 20-0 lead.

SCR-I cut into the deficit to open the second quarter as quarterback Danny Roach hit Thomas Miller on a 19-yard touchdown pass. Roach then connected with Clint Cottrell on the two-point conversion to cut the lead to 20-8.

The momentum was short lived as Schuyler County scored on its next drive to once again give the Rams a 20-point cushion at 28-8.

The Tigers moved to within striking distance at the half. Tim Robinson scored on a six-yard touchdown run and then added the two-point conversion to make the score 28-16 at half time.

The Tigers continued the comeback in the fourth quarter. Roach found Miller once again on a scoring pass, this one covering 40 yards. Robinson ran the two-point conversion in to pull SCR-I to within four points at 28-24.

The comeback was completed on the Tigers next possession as Robinson broke through the Rams defense and scampered 41 yards to the end zone for the go ahead score. He added the two-point conversion to give SCR-I its first lead of the game, 32-28.

The Rams took over with just 1:54 left to play in the game and marched the ball down field. With six seconds left Schuyler County scored on a 10-yard touchdown pass to give the Rams the 36-32 victory.
