LaPlata Keeps Tigers Winless With 78-49 Defeat

A tough start to the season for Scotland County got even tougher when LaPlata came to town December 6 and kept the Tigers winless at 0-4 on the season with a 78-49 defeat.

Traditionally LaPlata has been an easy win for the Tigers but last season the Bulldogs surprised SCR-I and then went on to the quarterfinals of the State 1A playoffs. They appear to be headed back for another run at a state title as the Bulldogs showed a potent line-up in an easy win over Scotland County.

The Tigers stuck in early with scores from Chase Moore and Robbie Miller. A three point play by Aarron Holt on an offensive rebound made the score 9-7. But the Bulldogs then jumped out to a 16-7 lead before Logan Bogatzke scored inside. Aaron Dale came off the bench for a pair of free throws and Brad Holt scored inside but LaPlata still led 21-13 at the end of the first quarter.

Buckets by Miller and Moore to open the second period cut the deficit to four points before LaPlata quickly rebuilt a 10-point lead. Jake Fogle scored on an offensive rebound followed by a three pointer from Aarron Holt. A jumper from Moore was only good enough to make the deficit eight. LaPlata scored the last seven points of the half including a three pointer at the buzzer to pull ahead 39-24 at the break.

The lead quickly went to 20 points at 50-30 midway through the third quarter. It got worse before the quarter concluded as LaPlata went ahead 61-34.

Scotland County did put up 15 points in the final period. Moore hit his third three pointer of the night and Fogle added a triple as well but it was not enough as LaPlata went on to the 78-49 victory.

Moore led the Scotland County offense with 14 points. Aarron Holt finished with eight and Robbie Miller added seven.
