Outdoor Corner

by Chris Feeney

It's time to put up or shut up. All winter long while discussions were being held regarding the racetrack at the Scotland County Fairgrounds dozens and dozens of people complained about different conditions at the speedway in one form or another. Well now is your chance. The Fair Board has announced a workday to be held at the fair grounds March 9 and 10, weather permitting. Put your money where your mouth is or what ever cliché you would like to use to say, if you have been griping and complaining now's the chance to make a difference.

I'll go one step further. I would suggest that if you do not show up for this workday or any of the future work sessions that will be planned throughout the spring and summer, you have no right to complain about the racetrack or the fairgrounds. You suppose that will work? It just might get a few people off their duff. If they knew they would not be allowed to complain if they did not first lend a hand to volunteers on the fair board who will be giving up their personal free time to make this a better facility for all, they might just show up and work a little. I suspect the fair board would also be a little more receptive to suggestions made by individuals who had made an effort to lend a hand.

This workday depends on Mother Nature. If conditions prevent workers from attending March 9-10 the event will be rescheduled at a later date. Anyone interested in helping should contact a fair board member.
