Hospital Ads Surgeon As Miller Joins Staff At SCMH

With roughly 300 major cases performed and a like number of minor procedures Scotland County Memorial Hospital definitely has the need for a full-time surgeon. As of February 1 that position has been filled by the return of Doctor Celeste Miller.

Miller grew up in Scotland County and still has family in the Arbela area where her three brothers, Ronald, Joe and Warren all reside. She is a graduate of Scotland County R-I High School.

The transition to surgeon was not immediate. After graduating from Northeast Missouri State University Miller worked as a medical technician in Iowa as well as in Quincy, IL. Ultimately Celeste returned to Kirksville where she graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine.

After KCOM, Miller went on to New York to serve her residency and internships. She remained in the area in practice for 10 years, working in the Nassau, Queens area.

While she has a general surgery background, Miller also specialized in oncology surgery while in New York serving a fellowship memorial at Sloan-Kattering, one of the premiere hospitals serving breast cancer patients. Miller said she hopes that her experience in oncology procedures will benefit patients in the community.
