Mother, Kids Hurt In Car Accident South Of Downing

A former Memphis resident and her two children were injured in a one-vehicle accident that occurred on Route A in Schuyler County at 7:30 a.m. February 26.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Ella A. (Anita) Simerl, 29, of Kirksville, was northbound on Route A, approximately five miles south of Downing when the 1989 Chevy Blazer she was driving apparently went out of control on a patch of snow and ice. The vehicle went off the west side of the roadway where it overturned before striking a tree.

Ella Simerl sustained serious injuries in the crash as did her son, six-year-old Dyllyn. Jordyn Simerl, three, daughter of the driver, suffered minor injuries in the crash. All three were taken by Schuyler County Ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

The patrol was assisted at the scene by the Schuyler County Sheriff's Department, Schuyler County Fire and Rescue, Downing Fire Department, and Schuyler County Ambulance Service.
