Motorcycle Crash Claims Life Of Downing Man

A Downing man was killed Sunday afternoon when the motorcycle he was driving crashed into a tractor-trailer.

The accident occurred at 4:10 p.m. August 11 on Highway 63 approximately one mile south of Lancaster.

Thomas C. Cottey, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Richard Minter at 4:38 p.m.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Cottey was northbound on a 1999 Harley-Davidson. Robert L. Clark, 52, of Huntsville drove a 1998 Peterbilt Tractor-Trailer out of a private driveway into the northbound lane where Cottey's motorcycle impacted the trailer of the truck.

The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Schuyler County Sheriff's Department and the Lancaster Police Department.
