Construction Begins On Downing Fire Station/Community Building

The Board of the City of Downing met in regular session on September 3, with Mayor Mullinix presiding. Others present were Aldermen Poe, Erwin and Ketchum; LaVaughn McNary, Danny Buford, Carolyn Anderson, Doris Schupbach, and Willa Mae Gooden.

Copies of the minutes, deposits and disbursements, and water/wastewater reports were given to the board members. Minutes were approved as written, payment of bills allowed and w/ww reports were reviewed.

Members of the Appreciation Days Committee are trying to raise money to purchase some new playground equipment and build a picnic area. Decision on their request for city help was tabled at this time. They plan to do fundraisers and ask for donations.

Construction of the new fire station and community building has been started. The board is in the process of obtaining an estimate on extending a water line to service it.

The master meter where Schuyler County Water District #1 ties into our line was inspected. The report verified that the meter accuracy was within limits. Verification is done every two years.

Our flag pole along Highway 136 should be replaced by the weekend of Appreciation Days.

Street and equipment repairs were discussed and complaints acknowledged.

City of Downing Board meeting September 16 and October 7 at 6:00 p.m.

Meeting adjourned.

Willa M. Gooden, City Clerk.
