Wheels For Life Bike-A-Thon Set For September 21

Mary Sumption and Amanda Watkins, serving as co-cordinators for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital "Wheels For Life Bike-A-Thon," are announcing the scheduled ride for the Scotland County and Memphis community. The St. Jude Children's Research Hospital specializes in treating the serious illnesses of children across our nation. They appeal to the young people of communities in every state to assist in raising much-needed dollars to fund research and treatment for many forms of cancer that can challenge the health of children. Many of those dollars are raised by children in communities just like ours as they ride their bicycles for this worthwhile cause. This year's Bike-A-Thon will be on Saturday, September 21st from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. The ride will take place at the First Baptist Church in Memphis. The rain date will be on September 28th. Riders are asked to register for the ride between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. on the day of the ride. It is important that any rider under 18 years of age have a pledge form signed by a parent or guardian. Rider pledge forms are available at the Scotland County R-I Elementary School office or at the First Christian Church office. St. Jude's will award every participant of the ride who turns in a donation of any amount with a Bike-A-Thon Certificate. If riders collect $35, a St. Jude T-Shirt will be added. Donations turned in by riders over $75 will have the choice of a sweatshirt or sports bag in addition to the previously mentioned awards. The rider who collects the most in donations over $125 will receive a CD Boom Box from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Mary Sumption and Amanda Watkins anticipate a successful event and have approached community businesses for donations to help encourage young people to participate in the ride. For further information about the ride, please contact Mary Sumption at 465-2388 or Amanda Watkins at 328-6387. The co-cordinators encourage the residents of the community to be generous in their donations when they are approached by our youthful riders and thank you in advance.
