Power Of Youth Games To Be Held In Memphis On Saturday

Scotland County 4-H and other community representatives met last year in December to discuss what Scotland County Youth and The Scotland County Community needed. The Power of Youth Committee is trying to promote some of the ideas that the youth at this meeting felt they needed. Some Parent-Link funds are available to help fund projects and promote activities for youth and parents. Help is needed to carry out programs and plan for future events.

Children and parents are invited to an event on Saturday afternoon, September 21 at 3:00 p.m.

The games will be held at Johnson Park and kids and parents will participate in games. After the games we will have a barbecue supper. A foldable scooter will be drawn for as a door prize for those attending. To be eligible for the drawing each youth will need to have a parent or an adult 18 years of age or older with them. The adults will be asked to help with the games and the meal.

The committee has set the third Saturday of the month as the Power of Youth Day. The next event will be November 16. Youth, parents, and adults will be asked to help plan and present the next event. The short-term goal is to have one event a month, hopefully leading to more events and eventually a youth center and mentoring program. We can make this a better community for our children if we work together.
