Tiger Trail Kids Walking Club Kicks Off October 8

All third through sixth graders in Scotland County R-1 grade school and family members are invited by the Children's Health Task Force to participate in the Tiger Trail Walking Club for prizes. One family member per participant such as a parent or guardian or older sibling (must be above the 6th grade) can participate.

Sessions will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:50 a.m. - 8:05 a.m. (15 min. sessions) beginning October 8 and ending November 26. Participants should arrive at least five minutes early and meet near the Principal Moore's office. The walking will take place near the Tiger Trail (near pond) - weather permitting.

During the sessions, participants will walk around the pond on the tiger trail. Every time a lap is completed, the participants will be handed a straw. At the end of the 15-minute session, participants will turn in their straws to a record keeper.

Two volunteers will coordinate each session. One volunteer will walk with the participants and the other will pass out straws and keep the time. Both volunteers will enforce the rules. Walking will be strictly enforced (one foot must be on the ground at all times).

Prizes will be awarded in December. Each time a participant earns a straw, they will receive a ticket for a lottery drawing. Prizes will include radios, scooters, and bikes (sponsored by Children's Health Task Force). There will be a separate lottery for family members who participate (prize to be determined).

In addition to the lottery, certificates will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for each grade for number of straws earned/ laps walked. Finally, the Children's Health Task Force will sponsor a party and t-shirts for all participants who attend at least eight sessions.
