Buildings In Downing To Be Demolished

The Board of the City of Downing met on October 21, for their regular meeting with Mayor Mullinix presiding. Others present were Aldermen Ketchum and Erwin, Danny Buford, Bill Mobley, Lavon McNary, DeWayne Mullinix, Carolyn and Tommy Anderson, Willa Mae Gooden and Dave Davison.

Copies of the minutes, balance statement, water tower repairs and painting proposal; as well as water line extension and replacement estimated cost sheets were given to board members. The minutes were approved as written and payment of the bills allowed.

Dave Davison presented us with copies of the Community Block Grant project demolition bid specifications and reviewed them with the board. Darrell Gooden had the low bid on residential house demolition and the MEDA Company submitted the lowest bid on the commercial building. Actual demolition should begin by mid-November or the end of November.

A cost estimate for connecting the water line from Rt. "V" to the Appreciation Days Park waterline and for replacing a portion of the line on Rt. "V" was reviewed and tabled. A bid for repairing and painting the water tower was tabled, also.

The letter from Missouri Emergency Management Agency regarding weather emergency plans was acknowledged. Mayor Mullinix will talk to Junior Arnold of the Downing Fire Association about their plan.

We are invited to attend a Northeast Missouri Regional Planning meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on October 29th at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Edina.

Since Utility Consultants at Unionville has been sold to Midwest Utility Consultants in Centerville, we will be having our lab tests for water and wastewater completed there. They have put us on their route and will be picking up the samples.

Meeting adjourned.

City Board meetings will be on November 4th and 18th, 6:30 p.m.
