Annual Nativity Set Display Expands To Two-Day Event

The First Christian Church of Memphis has been making plans to host its ninth annual Nativity Set Display. It will be held in the basement of the church, which is located at 320 South Main Street. The public is invited to attend this free event, which for the first time, this year will include hours on Friday evening. The dates are Friday, December 13, 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, December 14, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This year's display is expected to include over 400 represen-tations of the birth of Christ, loaned for the show by about 30 members of our church and community. There will be traditional sets of figurines and many unusual ones also. You will see the Nativity portrayed by teddy bears, snowmen, mice, children, Native Americans, Veggie Tales, stuffed animals and dolls. They are made of wood, plastic, porcelain, polyresin, clay, glass, flower pots, pewter, wax, onyx and even volcanic ash from Mt. St. Helens.

Along with the figurines, there will be many other types of Nativities on display. These will include magnets, puzzles, cookie cutters, story books and coloring books, an oil lamp, a key chain, a thimble and many more. Items range in size from life-size lawn ornaments to a postage stamp.

There will be several new items added to the display this year. Look for the Peanuts Characters, with Snoopy as the shepherd and Woodstock and friends as his sheep, an old Ohio Arts toy music box, a bright green set from Mexico, an animated display that play 20 Christmas carols and many more.

For more information or to loan your Nativity Set to the display, contact Robin Miller at (660) 945-3076 or the Church Office at (660) 465-7751.
