Vinal Richard Schell, 78, of rural Barry, IL, formerly of Palmyra, MO, died February 18, 2002, at Hannibal Regional Hospital, Hannibal, MO.

Mr. Schell was born March 8, 1923 at Memphis, MO, to Homer Richard Schell and Cassie Ellen Reynolds Schell.

He married Sue Ramsey, October 1, 1954 in Mission, KS, and she survives.

Other survivors include one son, David Richard Schell of Barry, IL; one daughter, Debra Sue (Mrs. Jeff) Bower of Barry, IL; Five grandchildren, Emily Elizabeth Schell and Kayla Diane Schell, both of Hannibal, MO, Michael Neil Bower, Michelle Sue Bower, and Amanda Lee Bower of Barry, IL.

Mr. Schell retired in 1985 from high school teaching for 27 years. He taught business courses at Palmyra High School, Palmyra, MO for 20 years. Previously he worked in Kansas City, MO as an accountant with Long Bell Lumber Company. He was a graduate of Memphis High School, Memphis, MO and Truman State University in Kirksville, MO, and was a member of Sigma Tau Fraternity at the College. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater. He was a member of Liberty Christian Church and the All for Christ Sunday School Class at the church.

Memorials may be made to Liberty Christian Church Building Fund.

Funeral services for Mr. Schell were held February 21, 2002, at the Liberty Christian Church, Liberty, IL, with Pastor Rick Walker officiating. Burial was in the Kingston Park Cemetery, Kingston, IL. Pallbearers were Jim Ellis, Roy Owen, Charles Eidson, Larry Ormond, Bob Carnes and Bob Lease. Military Rites were conducted at the Graveside by Liberty, IL American Legion Post #640. Smith Funeral Home, Hannibal, MO was in charge of arrangements.
