Carl Eugene Swope, 70, of Memphis, MO, passed away February 19, 2002, at the Scotland County Care Center, Memphis, MO.

He was born December 5, 1931, a son of Alphonso and Della Moore Swopes at Quincy (Hickory County), Missouri.

Carl was married to Wanda Kraus on January 16, 1971 at the United Methodist Church in Gorin, MO.

He was a graduate of Osceola High School, Osceola, MO with the class of 1950. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, June 6, 1950, and served in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on June 5, 1953.

Carl was employed by Marbles Ready-Mix in Memphis, MO for several years. Later he worked for the city of Memphis, MO, mowing the area around Lake Show-Me and the Briggs-Smith Memorial Airport.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Swope of the home, Memphis, MO; a brother, Howard and wife, Betty Swopes of Galmey, MO; a brother-in-law, Alfred Clear of Knob Noster, MO; nephews, nieces and cousins.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Zelma Clear; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Ruth Swopes; and a niece, Betty Swopes.

Memorials have been suggested to the Scotland County Nutrition Site in Memphis, MO.

The body was cremated and there were no services. Memphis Funeral Home of Memphis, MO, was in charge of arrangements.
