LAVON A. FLYNN
(12/27/1912 - 3/9/2002)



Lavon A. Flynn, 89, of Edina, MO, passed away March 9, 2002, at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, MO.

Lavon was born on December 27, 1912 in rural Scotland County, MO, the daughter of Ray and Myrtle Ralph Richardson.

She attended the Greensburg Rural School and lived her entire life in Scotland and Knox Counties, except for a time when she lived in Rayville, MO. Before her marriage Lavon stayed with new parents working as a nanny. Later she sold Avon for several years and helped the sick and elderly in their homes before working as a cook at the Knox County Nursing Home, where she retired in 1975.

Lavon was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Baring, MO, the Altar Society and the Happy Homemakers Club. She loved gardening, her cats, flowers, but most of all her family.

On March 27, 1938, in Edina, MO, she married Orville Flynn and he preceded her in death on June 2, 1960.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Cletus Richardson; a sister, Helen Mitchell; a granddaughter, Joyce Lynn Flynn; and a great-grandson, James Patrick Kiley.

Lavon is survived by a son, John and his wife, Lea Flynn of Edina, MO; two brothers, Ralph and his wife, Mary Richardson of Kirksville, MO and Billy Richardson of LaPlata, MO; a brother-in-law, Paul and his wife, Betty Mitchell of Rayville, MO; two sisters, Velma and her husband, Raymond Snow of LaPlata, MO and Dora Jane and her husband, Lloyd Cates of Rayville, MO; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Richardson of Kirksville, MO; five grandchildren, Teresa and her husband, Terry Hunolt of Baring, MO, Patty and her husband, Jim Kiley of St. Peters, MO; Marie and her husband, Bob Delaney of Kirksville, MO, Joanna and her husband, Todd Johnson of Kirksville, MO, and Ellen and her husband, Ryan Clark of Memphis, MO; 11 great-grandchildren, Eric, Beth and Erin Hunolt, Kathleen, Jackie, Shannon and Matt Kiley, Patrick and Ashley Delaney, Jessica and Kyle Clark, and a special nephew, Paul Wayne Mitchell, who she helped raise in his home after his mother passed away.

A funeral mass was held March 12, 2002, at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Baring, MO, with Father Bill Peckman officiating. Burial was in the St. Aloysius Cemetery at Baring, MO. Music was provided by Katie Delaney, organist, and Kathleen Kiley, soloist. Pallbearers were Terry Hunolt, Jim Kiley, Bob Delaney, Todd Johnson, Ryan Clark, Eric Hunolt, and Paul W. Mitchell with honorary bearers Jim Scott, Paul Mitchell, John Holdren, Joe Holdren, Ralph Richardson, Lloyd Cates, Billy Richardson, Raymond Snow and Bob Bartlett. An expression of sympathy in memory of Lavon Flynn may be made to the St. Aloysius Cemetery Fund. Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home of Edina, MO was in charge of arrangements.
