Alice Elizabeth McCabe, 81, of Edina, MO, passed away April 8, 2002, in the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.

She was born in Quincy, IL, on August 5, 1920, the daughter of James Patrick and Julia Verbena (Pettyjohn) Leigh Sr.

On October 13, 1937, at Kirksville, MO, she was united in marriage to James Henry McCabe and he preceded her in death on September 1, 1966.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, James Junior McCabe; two brothers, James Patrick (Jumbo) Leigh Jr. and Thomas B. Leigh; three sisters, Jewell (Judy) Walker, Sarah Ellen Barnes and Virginia Irene Leigh; one son-in-law, Mike Patterson; and a grandson-in-law, Sam Lonberger.

Surviving are three children, Virginia Patterson of Memphis, MO, Gary Lee McCabe of Edina, MO, and David Thomas McCabe of Knox City, MO; seven grandchildren, Tina Lonberger of Edina, MO, Tom McCabe and his wife, LeAnn of Edina, MO, Joe McCabe of Kansas City, MO, Todd McCabe and his wife, Maria of Athens, OH, Jamie McCabe of Knox City, MO, Rachel Dugger and husband, David of Memphis, MO, and Jennifer Patterson and her finance, Johnnie Smith of Greentop, MO; two step-grandchildren, Susan Young and husband, Terry and Billy Campbell of Austin, TX; seven great-grandchildren, Tristan and Tyler Lonberger of Edina, MO, Madison and Leighton McCabe of Edina, MO, Kathryn McCabe of Athens, OH, Zachary Small and Brandon Dugger of Memphis, MO; three step-great-grandchildren, Charlee, Mandee and Bradlee Young of Austin, TX; one sister-in-law, Beulah Leigh of Edina, MO and several nieces and nephews.

Alice spent most of her life in Knox County, MO, where she attended rural schools. She was a retired housekeeper and had also lived in Lewistown, Taylor and LaBelle, MO.

Alice was a member of the First Christian Church in Edina, MO, and a member of the Knox County V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #4822.

Funeral services were held April 12, 2002, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Edina, MO. The Reverend Dewayne Wellborn officiated the services. Burial was in the Linville Cemetery in Edina, MO. Music was provided by Brent Karhoff, soloist, and Carol Hayes, organist. Casketbearers were Don Woodward, Bob Glasgow, Dick Hopkins, Bob Green, Richard Brantner and Charles Gossman. Memorials in memory of Alice E. McCabe may be made to the First Christian Church of Edina, MO or the Knox County Ambulance. Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel of Edina, MO, was in charge of arrangements.
