EDNA JESSIE NELLIS

Edna Jessie Nellis, 92, of Memphis, MO, passed away April 10, 2002, in the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, MO.

The daughter of Carl Herbert and Fannie Cornelia (Givens) Nellis, she was born on November 24, 1909, in Memphis, MO.

Edna was a graduate of the Memphis High School Class of 1926.

She worked at the Reddish Variety Store in Memphis, MO until its closure and then worked at the W. Courtney Variety Store. When her mother became ill, Edna quit her job to take care of her mother until her death. After her father needed assistance following a stroke, she became his caregiver also.

Edna was a member of the Memphis Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. She enjoyed visiting with her friends and will be missed by many.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her brother, Junior; and two sisters, Helen and Gladys.

Survivors include one niece, Debbi Campidonica and her husband, Jack, of Ceres, CA; several cousins, Phil Givens and wife, Jo of Chicago, IL, Nancy DeLacy and husband, Gary of Cave Creek, AZ, Dudley Cone and wife, Leanne of Burlington, IA, Jack Givens and wife, Beverly of Memphis, MO, and Patricia Marra and husband, Tom of Kirksville, MO; and special friends, including special friend, Ann Muntz.

Funeral services were held on April 13, 2002, in the Gerth Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Pastor David Barton officiating. Special music was provided by Ann Luther, organist, and Brooklynne and Taylar Simpson, vocalists. Serving as pallbearers were Phil Duley, Mike Becraft, Tom Marra, Phil Givens, Charles West, and Dudley Cone. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO. Memorials have been suggested to the Memphis Presbyterian Church. Arrange-ments were handled by Gerth Funeral Service from their Memphis, MO chapel.
