ZELPHA ELIZABETH BAKER
(3/19/1897 - 4/27/2002)



Zelpha Elizabeth Baker, 105, of Belen, NM, formerly of Memphis, MO, passed away April 27, 2002, in the Belen Care and Rehabilitation Center in Belen, NM.

The daughter of Robert Edward and Mary Belle (Rooks) Wade, she was born on March 19, 1897, in Galt, MO.

She was married to Ira C. Baker on November 25, 1917, in Des Moines, IA. To this union four children were born Lillian, Harley, Harriet, and Hollis.

After her marriage, she helped her husband on their farm in Scotland County, MO. She belonged to various Extension Clubs and liked to quilt. Zelpha was also a member for the Galt Christian Church and the Dover Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; two children, Lillian and Harley; three sisters, Ruth Wade, Lillie Malone, and Imogene Tschantz; and one brother, Harley Wade.

Survivors include a son, Hollis Baker of Belen, NM; a daughter, Harriet Poole of Kirksville, MO; four grandchildren, Edward and wife, Kelley Wood of Chatham, IL, Sharon Shaw and husband, Rodney of Mt. Hope, KS, Karen Wood and husband Dave of Muskogee, OK, and Bill Wood of Memphis, MO; six great-grandchildren, Becky Shaw, Shannon Wood, Eric Wood, Tyler Wood, Aaron Shaw, and Cheri Hermann; four step-grandchildren, Timothy, Christopher, Jeremy, and Paige; and nine great-great-grand-children.

Funeral services were held May 1, 2002, in the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis, MO, with Brother Jack Sumption officiating. Special music was provided by Ann Luther, organist, and Joe Fulk, vocalist. Serving as pallbearers were Edward Wood, Bill Wood, Shannon Wood, Rodney Shaw, Curvin Martin, and Christopher Hobart. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO. Memorials have been suggested to the Memphis First Christian Church or the Dover Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Gerth Funeral Service from their Memphis, MO chapel.
