Arlis W. "Muggs" Taylor, 69, of Keokuk, IA, died May 5, 2002, at his home.

He was born April 6, 1933, in Rutledge, MO, the son of Ravel and Elsie Norton Taylor.

On July 6, 1957, Arlis was married to Merlyn Newman Arnold in Hannibal, MO. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Joyce Joy of Tampa, FL and Zandra Cole of Burlington, IA; one son, Ron Taylor and his wife, Brenda of Keokuk, IA; five grandchildren, Mindy Taylor, Matt Joy, Brandy Taylor, Ronnie Taylor, and Casey Taylor; one great-grandchild, Jordon Tate; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; one grandson, Jamie Joy; one cousin and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Taylor graduated from Baring High School in Baring, MO with the Class of 1951. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He had been employed at Bill Schreck's Pawn Shop in Keokuk, IA. Most recently, he and his daughter, Zandra, had owned and operated Taylor's General Store in Keokuk, IA.

He was well known in the area for his chair caning. He enjoyed trap shooting, pheasant hunting and playing cards.

Funeral services were held May 8, 2002, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Leon Buford officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Keokuk National Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the family.
