GERALDINE ESTHER BURDEN
(5/29/1933 - 6/14/2002)

Geraldine E. (Marsh) Burden, 69, of Downing, MO, passed away June 14, 2002, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, IA.

She was born the daughter of Lloyd J. and Mary E. (Boyce) Marsh on May 29, 1933, at the family home in Memphis, MO.

Gerri attended the Ft. Donaldson grade school and graduated from the Memphis High School in 1951.

Gerri graduated from college in Kirksville, MO with a degree from the licensed practical nurse program. She then received her Missouri Practical Nursing License after completing the Missouri State Board Exam. Gerri became a registered nurse after receiving her degree from Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, IA, in May 1987.

She worked as an RN until failing health forced her into retirement in 1991. She practiced as a nurse for over 30 years.

Gerri also worked at the Bank of Memphis prior to married life, and then she was a homemaker.

She baked for Keith's Café and the First Baptist Church in Memphis, MO. She and her husband ran the Memphis Locker from 1963-1968, when her brother, Junior Marsh purchased it. She managed the Scotland County Community Home for a short time.

Gerri was a generous, loving woman with strong family values that she extended to her many friends, making them family too. She was well known for her culinary skills and her dishes were not easily duplicated. Gerri never knew a stranger and no one walked away from her table hungry.

Although she wasn't a betting woman, she loved to play bingo and pull the handle on the one-armed-bandit. . unless it was time to go fishing.

Though life, family, and career moved her to Texas for a time, Gerri chose to return to the state she called her home for her final years.

She was a member of the Downing Christian Church.

She is survived by her children, Dixie C. Henley of Signal Mountain, TN, Mark E. Burden of Clever, MO, M. Deanna Burden of New Braunfels, TX, David E. Burden of Downing, MO, Deborah J.
