WILLIAM DUANE "BILL" BLAKE
(12/1/1929 - 7/8/2002)



William Duane "Bill" Blake, 72, of Memphis, MO, died July 8, 2002, at his home.

He was born December 1, 1929, in Centralia, WV, to Charles W. and Cora E. Bragg Blake.

He married Carolyn Walker, June 15, 1973, in Memphis, MO.

He retired as a custodian at the Scotland County R-I High School, Memphis, MO, in 1992. He served in the U.S. Army from March 3, 1948 until September 30, 1957; was a life member of the Wallace W. Gillespie Post #4958 of the VFW and affiliated with the First Baptist Church of Memphis, MO. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was proud to be a part of the VFW funeral detail.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Diane and husband, Jason Briggs of Centerville, IA, Lori and husband, Mike Ayers of Saint Francisville, MO, Dondi Blake of Kirksville, MO, and Kim and husband, Larry Dean Martin of Memphis, MO; three sons, Dusty and wife, Ranae Blake of Effingham, IL, Ronnie Robinson and wife, Lorna of Downing, MO, and Bryan Blake of Memphis, MO. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, Dustyn, Kodi, Kortini, BriAnna, KyLee, McKenzi, Joey, Logan, Amber, Cody, Brandon, Joshua, Sandi, Beth, Tim, Jessica, and Seth; and one sister, Joan Maynard of Williamson, WV.

Visitation will be open after 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2002, with the family present to receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Memphis Funeral Home in Memphis, MO.

A memorial has been established to Hospice 2000.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 11, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Memphis, MO, with the Reverends Robert Garringer and Norm Snowbarger officiating. Ann Luther will be the organist. Burial with Military Rites by the Wallace W. Gillespie Post #4958 of the VFW will be in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO. Casketbearers will be Bruce Lefler, Brice Lefler, Joe Wheeler, Joey Reese, Jason Middleton and Jeff Smith. Honorary casketbearers will be Donald "Skip" Shannon, Roger Robinson, Mike Robinson, Stevie Shelley, Howard Parrish, Max Eggleston, Dean Johnson, Randy Robinson, Bob Brown, Ron Alexander, Jim Clair, Dean Ulricksen, Randy Newcomer, Jerry Reese, and Jerry Lynn Garrett. Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, MO is in charge of arrangements.
