WAUNETA KRAUS

Wauneta Kraus, 84, of Keokuk, IA, died July 21, 2002, at the Keokuk Nursing Center in Keokuk, IA, where she had been a resident for the past 15 months.

She was born February 26, 1918, at Bible Grove, MO, a daughter of Roy and Anna Richardson Purvis.

She married Russell E. Kraus on September 21, 1946, in Memphis, MO. He preceded her in death on May 29, 1998.

Survivors include one son, Terry Kraus of Warsaw, IL; one daughter, Rhonda Courtney and her husband, Roger of Keokuk, IA; five grandchildren, Hilary Schreiber of Macomb, IL, Andrew Schreiber of Keokuk, IA, and Derrick, Dustin and Emily Kraus, all of Warsaw, IL; two step-grandchildren, Matt and Amy Courtney of Keokuk, IA; also nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Roger Russell Kraus; a grandson, Adam Schreiber, and a sister, Faye Kraus.

Wauneta attended Bible Grove and Miller schools in rural Scotland County. She had been a housewife until her children were raised and then worked at the Keokuk Middle School, where she was a school bus aid and former cook. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Keokuk, IA. She enjoyed being a housewife and mother and had been a devoted and loving wife.

Funeral services were held July 24, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. at the Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, MO with Pastor Paul Beisel officiating. Music was recorded tape selections. Pallbearers were Derrick Kraus, Dustin Kraus, Andrew Schreiber, Matt Courtney, Gurden Kraus, and Harold Hall. Burial was in the Gorin (MO) Cemetery. Memorials were suggested to the Keokuk (IA) Nursing Center (Activity Fund). Arrangements were handled by Wilson Funeral Home, Kahoka, MO.
