MABEL MAE RILEY
(6/22/1905 - 9/9/2002)



Mabel Mae Riley, 97, passed away September 9, 2002, at the Forest Hill and Rehab Home in East Moline, IL.

The daughter of Henry Hilic and Flora Effie (Martin) McNary, she was born on June 22, 1905 east of Lancaster, MO in Schuyler County.

She attended school at Fabius rural school and lived all her life in Schuyler County, MO.

She was united in marriage to Dewey "Jack" Bragg. On January 7, 1969, she married William (Bill) Jesse Riley. He preceded her in death on January 10, 1991.

Mabel is survived by her children, Calvin McNary and wife, Dixie of Klamath Falls, OR, Edward Max Bragg and wife, Coleen of Keithsburg, IL, Kenneth Bragg and wife, Janice of Knoxville, IL and Helen June Beselin of Rock Island, IL; 22 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, special friends, Vaughn, and Jenny Ruth and family, Loren, Janice, and Robert Bragg and Don and Jean (Bragg) Miller and many friends of the Downing community.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William (Bill) Jesse Riley; one daughter, Eva Mae Neese; two sons-in-law, Frank Neese and Fred Beselin; one sister, Hazel Gray; two brothers, Jim McNary and twin, Marvel Lee McNary; and one great-grandson, "Little John" Neese.

Mabel was a member of the Downing Community Christian Church in Downing, MO. She owned and operated the restaurant for many years and later the Dairy Queen for several years both located in Downing. Mabel will be remembered for her love of kids as she cared for several in Downing area including Carlon Sayre, Curtis and Kelley Waters and Jeremy and Tonya Sayre. Mabel was called upon to make pies for many of the various organizations, church functions and fundraisers held in Downing and would do this task very willingly as she enjoyed using this talent. She would make pies for many individuals who just enjoyed her pies.

Funeral services were held September 13, 2002 at the Norman Funeral Home in Downing, MO, with the Reverend Robert Garringer, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Memphis, MO, officiating, assisted by Reverend Sam Martin, pastor of the Downing Baptist Church in Downing, MO. Organist was Willa Mae Gooden and soloist was Schelle Cooley. Pallbearers were Steve Bragg, Carlon Sayre, Daryll Bragg, Bill Bragg, Eugene Bragg and Vaughn Ruth. Memorials have been established for the Downing City Cemetery. Norman Funeral Home, Downing, MO was in charge of arrangements.
