WILLIAM GILBERT (BILLY) AUSTIN
(1/30/1928 - 9/26/2002)

William Gilbert (Billy) Austin, 74, of Gorin, MO, passed away September 26, 2002, at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, MO.

The son of Guy and Mary (Musgrove) Austin, he was born January 30, 1928, on the family farm, rural Gorin, Scotland County, MO, where he lived until his death.

Billy and Paulene Tudor were united in marriage on May 14, 1948, in Wyaconda, MO. To this union one daughter, Marsha, and one son, John were born.

After graduating from Gorin High School in 1945, Billy enlisted in the US Navy to serve two years. He was proud to serve his country.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brothers, Ralph and Raymond Austin. Billy and Raymond were farming partners until Raymond's death in 1977.

Billy will be remembered by his friendly smile and helping hand. Grandpa Billy will be sadly missed by his wife, Paulene of Gorin, MO; daughter, Marsha Austin Davis and her husband, Dean, and son, John Austin and his wife, Donna, all of Memphis, MO; four grandchildren, Paula Rubinstein and her husband, Scott of Columbia, MO, Deana Evans and her husband, Doug of Kansas City, MO, Keith Davis and his wife, Brenda of Columbia, MO, and Jeremy Austin and his wife, Leslie of Jefferson City, MO; and five great-grandchildren of whom he was very fond; one nephew, Gary Austin and his wife, Patty and family of St. Charles, MO. Several Austin cousins in Indiana survive.

Billy accepted Christ as his Savior and united with the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Gorin, MO. He served on the Gorin School Board for nine years. He was president of the Gorin Senior Housing for a number of years.

The family has suggested memorials to the Gorin Community Cemetery.

Funeral services were held September 29, 2002, at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Bro. Leland Oliver officiating. Body bearers were Keith Davis, Jeremy Austin, Scott Rubinstein, Doug Evans, John Austin, and Dean Davis. Interment was in the Gorin Community Cemetery, Gorin, MO.
