LEONA FERN PENCE

Leona Fern Pence, 63, of Canton, MO, died October 1, 2002, in the Sycamore Health Care Center in Quincy, IL.

She was born January 16, 1939, in Salisbury, MO to Ed and Maude B. Hayney Icenogle.

She married Frederick Lawrence Hardin in Macon, MO on July 8, 1955. They later divorced. She married Joe Pence in 1963 in Memphis, MO. He died November 29, 1994.

Leona was a homemaker and a Dietary Aide. She also cared for the elderly in their homes. She enjoyed her family immensely. She attended the Christian Church in Cantril, IA.

Survivors include her children, Peggy Goley of Quincy, IL, Cindy Engle and husband, Steve of Troy, IA, Kenneth Hardin and wife, Valarie of Canton, MO, and Robert Hardin of Quincy, IL. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Kevin Golay, Michael Golay, Justin Golay, Cory Engle, Matthew Engle, Aaron Hardin and Shanelle Hardin and seven great-grandchildren, Stephanie Golay, Scott Golay, Alex Golay, Kelsey Golay, Austin Golay, Brady Joe Forrest and Tyrick Peoples; and one brother, Clarence Icenogle of LaGrange, MO; and a sister, Virginia Wilson of Wichita, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe; three brothers, Noah P., Wm. F. and Henry Icenogle and a sister in infancy.

Funeral services were held October 5, 2002, at the Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, MO, with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial was in the Richardsdale Cemetery at Bevier, MO. Casketbearers were Thomas Caslley, Kevin Golay, Matt Engle, Steven Engle, Michael Golay, and Aaron W.R. Hardin. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society. Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, MO was in charge of arrangements.
