NELLIE HEDBERG
(8/12/1906 - 11/1/2002)



Nellie Hedberg, 96, of Oregon, IL, passed away November 1, 2002, in Strathmoor Nursing Home in Rockford, IL.

She was born August 12, 1906, in Danville, IA, the daughter of John and Sarah Cecelia (Driscoll) Witte.

On June 1, 1929, in Kirksville, MO, she was united in marriage to Walter J. Hedberg, who preceded her in death September 3, 1988.

Her parents, one sister, Mary Edith Dunn, and two brothers, John and Roy Witte, also preceded her in death.

Nellie is survived by one daughter, Dr. Lois Ann DuFresne of Oregon, IL; one granddaughter, Ann Sarah Mozdzen and her husband, Ed of Cleveland, OH; a great-grandson, Michael Edward Mozdzen of Cleveland, OH; one sister, Ida B. Myers of Rutledge, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

As a child, she and her family moved to Scotland County, MO. She was a graduate of the Edina, MO High School and also the Kirksville State Teachers College (Now Truman State University). Her first job after high school graduation was teaching at the Runts Corner one-room school. After graduation from college, she taught in the Kansas City, MO area. After she retired from teaching, she continued to tutor children.

Nellie served as a nurses' aid during World War II. She and her husband later moved to the Chicago, IL area, where she owned and operated a gift shop and sewing school. She was an active election judge for many years at the local polls. In 1970, she and her husband moved to Oregon, IL.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, November 7, 2002, at 1:00 p.m. at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Kirksville, MO. Reverend Virgil Jones will officiate the service. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, MO. An expression of sympathy in memory of Nellie Hedberg may be made to the American Cancer Society. Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, Kirksville, MO is in charge of services.
