MARION H. COWELL

Marion H. Cowell, 81, of Memphis, MO, passed away November 9, 2002, at the Scotland County Care Center, Memphis, MO.

The son of Floyd E. and Cora Dunn Cowell, Marion was born on December 4, 1920, in rural Scotland County, MO.

He attended school in Bible Grove, MO.

Marion was helping his father farm when he was inducted into the United States Army on September 15, 1942, and received his field artillery basic training at Camp Bowie, TX. He was later stationed at Fort Sill, OK. Marion received a medical discharge on July 7, 1943, and returned to Scotland County, MO.

Marion later went to California and worked on the Wogoman Ranch, showing cattle in all the Western States.

Marion was united in marriage on December 6, 1963 to Alice Franklin. The couple enjoyed farming in the Lawn Ridge community until September 1981, at which time, Marion and Alice moved to Wyoming. After working on sheep and cattle ranches they retired in Cody, WY, in 1986. In 1991, Marion and Alice returned to Memphis, MO.

Marion was a 60-year member of the Greensburg Lodge #414 A.F. & A.M., Greensburg, MO.

Preceding Marion in death was his parents and brothers, Martin and Leon.

Survivors include his wife, Alice, sister, Louise and husband, Dean Frederick of Memphis, MO; sisters-in-law, Marlene Cowell of Arbela, MO, and Marilyn Cowell of Memphis, MO; several nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 14, 2002, at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Masonic Services at 7:00 p.m. by Greensburg Lodge #414 A.F. & A.M.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Marion Cowell may be made to the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO. Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO was in charge of arrangements.
