Bertha M. Gregory, 90, of Kahoka, MO, died November 15, 2002, in Keokuk Area Hospital, Keokuk, IA.

She was born January 1, 1912, in Astoria, IL, a daughter of Harry and Martha Burchett Moore.

On March 28, 1930, she married Edgar Gregory at the home of her grandmother in Kahoka, MO. He preceded her in death in December of 1962.

Survivors include two sons, Bob Gregory and his wife, Babe of Memphis, MO, and Hurley Gregory and his wife, Gloria of West Point, IA; two daughters, Edna Smith of Bonaparte, IA and Margaret Peak and her husband, Kenneth of Washington, IL; a step-daughter-in-law, Frances Gregory of Fort Madison, IA; 25 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three step-sons, John Albert Gregory, Richard C. Gregory, and Edgar D. Gregory; four brothers; two sisters; and four great-grandchildren.

Bertha was a cook for many years in restaurants in Kahoka, MO and was better known as the "pie lady". She had baked seven pies the day before being admitted to the hospital in West Burlington, IA this past year and had remarked to the nurses there "if you bring me up the ingredients, I'll bake you a pie - now". She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kahoka, MO. Crocheting and sewing were her hobbies, but she loved cooking and baking. More than anything she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held November 18, 2002, at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, MO with Rev. Dan Deatrick officiating. Mathew Eder was soloist, accompanied by Kathy Wilson. Pallbearers were Ronnie Poole, Donnie Poole, Steve Peak, Greg Peak, Melvin Gregory, and Dick Gregory. Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery. Memorials have been suggested to the Kahoka City Cemetery or the Clark County Nursing Home Activity Fund. Wilson Funeral Home, Kahoka, MO, was in charge of arrangements.
