Highland, Clark County Claim District 6 Titles

The Missouri Class 2A District 6 tournaments came to end, in dramatic style in the girl's finale, on March 1 in Canton.

The Clark County Indians got a little revenge for the team's lone loss of the regular season by edging Palmyra 53-52 in overtime of the girls district championship game.

The Lady Indians once again had to battle back from an early deficit to move on into the state playoffs. Clark County had to rally in the fourth quarter to beat Knox County in the semi-finals to advance to the championship match-up with Palmyra. The Panthers beat Putnam County to move into the finale.

The Lady Indians held onto the one-point margin despite missing the front end of the one-and-one at the free throw line twice in the final 30 seconds of the contest.

Clark County had trailed by as many as 12 points in the third period.

In the boys contest it was all Highland, as the other #1 seed also advanced to the regional playoffs.

The Cougars improved to 23-6 on the season with an impressive 56-40 win over second seed Canton. Greg Dilligard led Highland with 22 points and 20 rebounds.

Highland advanced to take on Elsberry (25-3) in the sectional playoffs held March 6 at Mexico High School.

Clark County (27-1) will take on Elsberry (27-0) in a rematch of last year's sectional playoffs. The girls game starts at 6:30 p.m. to be followed by the boys contest.
