Blomme Chosen To Attend Fine Arts Academy

The Scotland County R-I School District will once again be represented at the Missouri Fine Arts Academy as junior Amy Blomme has been selected to attend the seventh annual edition of gathering for gifted art students from across the state.

Blomme will travel to Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield for the three-week camp that will run from June 9 through June 29, including weekends.

More than 200 of Missouri's artistically talented students entering either their junior or senior year in high school, will attend the academy. The special program aims to help these students achieve their full potential while motivating them to use their abilities in attaining higher goals in art as well as the rest of their education.

The students also will be gaining training that will help them return to their schools and establish or improve programs for artistically gifted youth by providing leadership in curriculum development and teaching strategies.

The class enrollment is chosen from nominations from public and private schools across the state. Each school in Missouri may nominate at least one student for the honor. A selection committee appointed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education screens and evaluates all nominations before selecting qualified participants.

Students at the academy spend each morning, five days a week, studying the arts in interdisciplinary formats. The afternoon session is then spent in intensive pursuit of their primary areas of artistic ability. During the evening students attend the academy's special series of concerts, theatre productions, and lectures, featuring outstanding artists and speakers from throughout the state and nation.
