Tigers Take Second Place In Track Season Opener In Iowa

A strong showing from up and down the line for the Scotland County boys track team helped the Tigers bring home a second place finish from the 2002 Van Buren Invitational March 28.

Two first place finishes top the score book for SCR-I. Jason Glass won the Discus event with a throw of 134 feet 10 inches. Andrew Bulen finished sixth in the event with a throw of 98 feet 6.5 inches.

The Tigers 4 x 800 relay team also won top honors, besting the field in a time of 9:15.36 The team consisted of Clint Cottrell, Cody Holt, Danny Roach and David Hillyer.

Jason Findling contributed big points in the team effort with two second place finishes. Findling was runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet and nine inches. Tim Robinson was sixth in the long jump, covering 17 feet, 11 inches.

Findling's other second place points came in the 400 meter low hurdles where he finished in 1:06.39 just ahead of teammate Jon Keller who was third. Keller also finished third in the 110 meter high hurdles.

Brett Masden gave Scotland County a third second place finish when he finished just behind the top performer in the shot put. The junior threw 41 feet three inches.

The points flowed in on third place finishes as Scotland County had a large field of contributors. Cottrell was third in the high jump clearing five feet and four inches. Holt took fifth in the event at the same height.

Kiel Fogle took third place in the 3,200 meter run in a time of 11:34.19. Teammate Lance Norton was fifth in the race.

Tim Buford picked up third place points in the 200 meter dash. He crossed the finish line in 24.49 seconds. Buford also finished fifth in the 100 meter dash.

The long distance runners followed up the relay win with a couple good individual runs. Roach was third in the 800 meter run while Hillyer finished fourth in the 1,600 meter run.

The Tigers 4 x 200 relay team was fourth, as was the squad's 1,600 medley relay team.
