SCR-I Girls Track Team Takes Ninth At Redette Relays

Missing two top performers from the field events dropped SCR-I into ninth place at the Redette Relays in Centerville, IA April 4 on what was otherwise a promising performance overall.

We were missing some key components," said coach Josh Smith. "I went through and refigured all of the scores and if we had the entire team and how we probably would have placed in the shot and discus and a few other events and I think we would have moved up close to third place in the standings."

The team was without Sara Norton and Amy Morgan, both top performers in the shot put and discus.

Amy Blomme continued her strong performance in the 400-meter hurdles with a second place finish. She crossed the finish line in 1:09.51 well ahead of her time just two days earlier.

The Lady Tigers 4x100 team won third place behind the performances of Sara Eggleston, Megan Walker, Blomme, and Jessie Cotton.

That same squad also took fourth place in the 4x200 relay in a time of 2:05.78.

Three individuals also scored for SCR-I. Eggleston took fourth in the 200-meter dash. Valerie Crawford was fourth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:11.56 while Rebecca Consbrock won fifth place in the 800-meter run.

"We are right on the verge of doing well," Smith said. "Last year at big meets like this we wouldn't even show in the sprint events and now we are placing in them. Our 4x100 team ran a time almost as fast as their best time last year, despite the cold weather. By the end of the season they should be pressuring the school records in the 4x100 and 4x200."
