BLOOMFIELD SPEEDWAY Results from 5-3-02 MCCLURE PICKS UP FIRST CAREER WIN

Bloomfield, IA (May 3) - Mike McClure of Bloomfield, IA, is in his third year of IMCA Stock Car racing and he has led several laps of feature events over those three years. But he had never led the final lap of a feature event until this past Friday night at The Bloomfield Speedway.

McClure took advantage of his outside front row starting position by going to the lead at the drop of the green flag with Lonnie Taylor of Floris, IA, making his way into second place on the first lap as well. McClure held off numerous passing attempts by Taylor during the sixteen-lap event but Taylor was not able to get around him for the lead. McClure led every lap for his first career feature win during the night being sponsored by Mikel's Inc., Ken's Auto Works and Gus Walker Towing.

Taylor finished in second place by a car length with Bob Crouse of New Sharon, IA, in third and Louis Lynch of Lancaster in fourth.

Jared Curry of Fremont, IA, got around Mark Wirth of Chariton, IA, for the IMCA Hobby Stock feature lead on the fourth circuit after Wirth had led the first three laps. Curry gradually pulled away from Wirth the final 10 laps for the victory. Wirth finished in second with Kris Walker of Oskaloosa, IA, in third and Dennis Greenfield of Ottumwa, IA, in fourth.

Mark Widmar of Ottumwa, IA, took the lead of the IMCA Modified headliner on the first lap and led the field around the 3/8 mile facility until the 10th lap when Brad Pinkerton of New Sharon, IA, took control of the race. Pinkerton led the final six laps for his first win of the year at Bloomfield where he was the 2001 track champion in the division. Widmar finished in second just ahead of Jim Lynch of Bloomfield, IA, in third and Chris Eggers of Lancaster in fourth.

John Sheston and Ryan Stober of Centerville, IA, passed Steve Stickler and Scott Hawkins of Cincinnati, IA, for the Cruiser feature lead at the midway point of the race and led the last five laps for the victory. Rusty Latimer and Bill Callen of Centerville, IA, gained rapidly on the leaders the final two laps but ran out of time and settled for a second place finish with Stickler and Hawkins in third and Bryan Overhulser and Sean Verdon of St. Francisville in fourth.
