SCR-I Softball Squad Smashes Schuyler County 11-1 For Win

Heading into the open of league play this week the Lady Tigers softball team made it a perfect 3-0 against conference foes during the pre-season with a 12-1 demolition of Schuyler County September 10 in Queen City.

The official conference season started September 16 with the Tigers feeling good about their chances of a solid finishing, having already beaten Knox County and Clark County in non-conference games. SCR-I added the Rams to the list with the convincing 10-run margin.

Scotland County got off to a rocky start as the Rams touched up starting pitcher Sara Eggleston for several base runners in the first two at bats. After starnding the bases loaded in the second inning, Schuyler County tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the third.

The Lady Tigers had scored in their half of the inning when Eggleston walked and scored on a fielding error by the Rams.

The game remained knotted at 1-1 until the fifth inning when the wheels fell off for Schuyler County. SCR-I scored six times with the benefit of just two hits. Ali Fromm led of with a walk. Eggleston and Amy Blomme followed with freee passes to load the bases. Meagan Fromm delivered an RBI hit. Brandi Mallett was then hit by a pitch. A walk to Valerie Crawford forced in a run before Rebecca Consbrock drove in the final two tallies with a hit as the team batted around in the inning.

Scotland County got three more scores in the sixth inning as the Schuyler County pitcher hit three consecutive batters. Crawford drove in a couple with an RBI single to make the score 10-1.

Blomme singled in the seventh inning and came around to score on a Schuyler County fielding error to make the final score 11-1.

Eggleston improved to 5-2 on the season as she recorded the complete game victory. The junior hurler struck out seven while walking just three and allowing five hits.
