Putnam County Deals Blow To Lady Tigers Title Hopes

Scotland County's aspirations of a conference softball title were dealt a severe blow September 26 in Unionville when Putnam County defeated SCR-I 2-1.

The perennial conference champs scored twice in the third inning to hand the Lady Tigers the defeat.

Scotland County could only manage one base runner in the first three innings, coming on a single by Jenna Shalley.

The team broke through in the fourth frame. With one out Amy Blomme doubled. She scored on a single by Meagan Fromm to cut the deficit to 2-1.

That proved to be the last hit of the game for Scotland County. The team had just one base runner in the final three innings. Brenna Cook reached on an error and made her way around to third base where she ultimately was stranded.

Pitcher Sara Eggleston struggled with her control in the game allowing a season-high five walks. She held the Lady Midgets to just four hits and struck out nine. The team defense let her down a bit as errors accounted for both Putnam County scores.
